About

Maryland Grows is the blog of the Home & Garden Information Center (HGIC), a program of the University of Maryland Extension (UME). We educate Maryland residents about lawn care and ornamental plants, food gardening, and the services provided by our statewide Master Gardener Program. Through our website, online Ask Extension service, and network of 1,700 Master Gardeners, HGIC delivers science-based sustainable gardening and integrated pest management education for better human and environmental health.

University of Maryland Extension faculty, staff, Certified Professional Horticulturists and Master Gardeners contribute to the Maryland Grows blog. We offer timely tips, practical information, and personal stories about real-life challenges we face in our gardens and landscapes. We welcome gardeners at all levels – especially beginners – and invite you to share your comments and experiences.

This institution is an equal opportunity provider. Accommodation request, contact your local UMD Extension Office.
