Frost warning

Check your forecast! Light frosts are possible in some areas of Maryland this weekend. Probably time to get those last peppers harvested if you haven’t done it yet.

  1. Thanks for the warning. Here in central VA, too. Doesn't it seem early? We have lots of peppers to harvest but I had hoped to have a little more time. 😦

  2. Couple of comments to add to Erica's post. First is that most forcasters I looked at are calling for a freeze warning west of the I-95 corridor. With clear skies and no wind, you can guess that the cold air will settle to ground level.

Second, not only do you have to worry about summer crops, but you will probably have to worry about half hardy vegetables like Beets, Cauliflower, Chard, Chinese, Cabbage, Kohlrabi, Lettuce, Mustard, Peas, Potatoes and Rutabagas. If you still have half hardy vegetables in your garden, cover them with row cover or an old sheet or blanket which might protect if temps only just get to freezing.

After Monday, it is suppose to warm up and you can remove the frost blankets. For more Info on frost and freeze date, just search for frost and freeze dates on the GIEI website.
